Figure: Application running on a PDA.
For the context of mobile use a ticket reservation application for movie shows in cinema had to be designed. Key issue was the appropriate exertion of interaction modalities (speech, stylus, visuals) for different use-cases, e.g. mobile use in-car (hands-free), mobile use in the public, etc. The target platform of the application is a speech-enabled XHTML+Voice browser running on a PDA.
First, different usage scenarios were developed. In a next step, a set of functional requirements and a task model were derived. Afterwards, an initial dialogue structure and the corresponding dialogue prompts were designed. By means of the Wizard-of-Oz technique the speech dialogue was iteratively tested and re-designed. In parallel, the interaction design for the graphical user interface was developed. After the usability goals had been reached, I implemented the XHTML+Voice web application in PHP.
At the end, the final usability test showed an overall positive rating. The working prototype was demonstrated at the final project presentation.
This project accompanied the module „Speech Interfaces“ of the User-System Interaction post-graduate program at the TU Eindhoven.
