Bringing together information seekers and domain experts
For this communal web portal I had to design and implement a web-based system for online retrieval of advisory documents in the PDF format. The documents are authored by experts of an consultancy network on municipal economy and published by the staff of the non-profit organization running the web portal. Users have the possibility to search and download preview versions of relevant advisory documents. In a second step, the full version documents can be ordered, which are then delivered by email to the user.
The information platform is maintained and administered with a web-based content management tool by the responsible staff. The tool offers various functionalities for document management, user management and user tracking. Additionally, data of the user tracking can be retrieved in CSV-format for further treatment in the spreadsheet analysis package MS Excel.
Actions and results
My responsibilities were the programming of the content management tool for the maintenance staff (PHP, JavaScript, MySQL, CSV).
As a result, the application is up and running since summer 2003.
Kompetenzzentrum Kommunalwirtschaft (a consultancy network for municipal economy) is a non-profit organisation. Its web portal provides free helpful information to communities, administrative districts, administration unions and communal enterprises.
